American Ginseng

American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius, L.) is a perennial herb and grows wild in deciduous forests of the eastern United States. American ginseng is an erect plant that reaches a height of 0.3 to 0.7 meters and has fusiform roots, greenish-white flowers and red berries. The roots and rhizomes are often branched or forked, and they bring a premium price if they resemble a human form. Wild ginseng once thrived along most of the nation's eastern seaboard, from Maine to Alabama and west to Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota. American ginseng, (panax quinquefolium) was at one time plentiful in all mountainous regions of the United States. However, it was over-harvested in the mid-1970s, and was subsequently defined as an endangered species. Now, only licensed ginseng harvesters are allowed to dig for the wild ginseng root.

Ginseng was one of the earliest marketable herbs harvested in the United States. Wild ginseng was one of Minnesota's first major exports. In 1860, more than 120 tons of dried ginseng roots were shipped from the Minnesota to China. American ginseng is similar to Asian ginseng, Panax ginseng, L. that grows wild in Northern Manchuria and has been harvested there for thousands of years. Currently, 18 states issue licenses to export it. In Wisconsin and several other states where ginseng is cultivated, a permit is not required to export artificially propagated ginseng.

American ginseng is also commonly cultivated. It is relatively easy to grow. The root takes approximately 5 years to reach harvesting maturity. American ginseng plants are generally started from seeds. Seedlings or roots for transplanting are available commercially but used infrequently. Seeds are planted in the fall and germinate in the spring.

American Ginseng is not a drug and should not be taken as such. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified it as a generally recognized safe food (GRAS).

Ginseng provides detailed information on Ginseng, Growing Ginseng, Ginseng Tea, American Ginseng and more. Ginseng is affliated with Therapeutic Essential Oils.

It is something of a challenge to select the best green tea, especially if you are new to the green tea world. Some of the best green tea examples available on the market today are found below. There are also some excellent ways to bring out the wonderful flavor through brewing.

To the flavor of the resultant tea can be hindered by tea bags or tea balls. Allowing the tea leaves to sit loosing in the water and steep for a few minutes is the best way to brew green tea and then is should be strained if desired.

A matter of taste and preference is the best way to find the best green tea. Try a number of different types to see which is your favorite green tea.

How Diet affects the Hair

There is more to healthy hair than putting products on your head; you also have to watch what you put in your mouth. You need a nutritious diet so that your body can create healthy cells and tissue exactly the stuff that hair is made of. Poor nutrition, erratic meals, even crash diets can all lead to thinning, dullness, and dryness.

First of all, you need to have the right amounts of proteins. Proteins build cells, and they also contain amino acids that are particularly crucial to hair growth. These include Cystine, Cysteine, Methionine, argentine and lysine. These can be found in meats, fish, poultry dairy and eggs. If you are vegetarian, you can also get it from soy, nuts, grains and seeds (although you may need a protein supplement). Dieticians believe that at least 15% of your calories must come from food that is rich in protein.

Many of today low-crab diets may lead to steady weight loss, but it may come at the price of the health of your hair. Crabs help in the growth of body tissues, and they are also the body primary source of B vitamins, which your body needs. That’s why it is a not recommended to stay on crab-free diets for long periods of time; even South Beach recommends that the First Phase be limited to three weeks. Instead, opt for smart crabs, meaning you cut out sugars and white flour, and get healthy crabs from vegetables, fruits, whole grains, brown rice and potatoes.

Too much fat is bad for you, but you need a little fat in your diet to stay healthy and to keep your hair healthy, too. To avoid health risks associated with a fat-heavy diet, get it from lean meat that is grilled or braised rather than fried. Needless to say, eating that hamburger is not a healthy option.

Why does diet play such a role in healthy hair? For one thing, your body will need the right amounts of vitamins and minerals to be able to create strong cells. People who go on crash diets will often report hair loss. Strands may be brittle and easily damaged, and will look dull despite all efforts to condition and style. This means your body is unable to replace cell properly, or that the cells it manufactures is unable to withstand the damage it takes from daily environmental abuse: brushing, hair drying, or even the UV rays in the sun. It is a same principle why skipping meals can cause your face to look blotchy and pale. If it can affect the color in your cheeks, it will also affect whether your hair is thick and shiny, or limp and lifeless.

Crash dieting can also affect the body chemical balance. Many people will go through natural hair loss cycles, such as during pregnancy or right after childbirth, as the body adjusts to shifts in hormones. A lack of nutrition can set off a hormonal nightmare, sending wrong signals to the hair glands like a fuse gone wrong. Severe stress can also do this.

Thus, for healthy hair, you need to invest in good hair care products and a good lifestyle. Eat right, and find ways to relax after a long day at work to minimize the effects of stress. Of course, a good shampoo never hurt.

Keep back pain at bay

Back pain is the most common complaint among adults under 45. Back pain brings their activities to a complete halt and intervenes in the progress of their career. Researchers say that it is really a challenge to a physician to find out the true cause of back pain.

Here is a quick take on the anatomy of the human back. Our body depends on the spinal column for structural stability and mobility. We twist, bend and flex with the help of spinal column. The spinal column is made up of 24 vertebrae, 7 in the neck (the cervical vertebrae), 12 in the thorax (the thoracic vertebrae), and 5 in the lower back (the lumbar vertebrae). The sacrum, located just below the lumbar vertebrae, consists of 5 fused vertebrae. The tailbone, or coccyx, with its 3 to 5 fused vertebrae, lies just beneath the sacrum. These vertebrae are placed one on another from skull to pelvis. Spongy discs are present in between vertebrae .The spinal column is tightly wrapped by muscles and ligaments. The spinal cord is enclosed within vertebral canal which is formed by alignment of vertebrae.

Acharya sushruta describes anatomy of spinal column as follows.

Prushte trimshat - The number of back bones are 30 (Cervical-7 , Thoracic – 12, Lumbar- 5, vertebrae fused in sacrum -5 , coccyx -1 ). While describing the joints in spinal column it has been said as “ Chaturvimshatihi prishta vamshe “. This means there are 24 joints in spinal column.

The ligaments and tendons hold the bones and muscles together.

Causes for back ache

Bones and thighs are mainly occupied by Vata . Vata controls and directs the body movements.Back pain occurs when vata in this region gets aggravated due to unwise physical activities (mithya yoga of karma), exaggerated physical activities (Ati yoga of karma ) or less physical activities (hina yoga of karma).

Back ache usually arises from spasm of muscles that support our spine. The muscles supporting spine go into spasm when we lift things unwisely, bending over too sharply, sitting in a unsuitable chair, etc. These type of movements are called as “Mithyaa yoga of karma or action ” in ayurveda.
Back pain can be triggered when we sneeze, climb into a car, or bend down to pick up the newspaper.
Osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, viral infection, bladder or kidney infection, gynecological problems in women, tumors and trauma may also cause back pain.
Lack of motion or hina yoga of karma and bad posture may affect us when we sit or stand for long periods of time. On the other hand repetitive motion or Ati yoga of karma like too much of bending, lifting or twisting also affects our back.
Other potential causes for back ache are:
Overweight
Wearing high heeled shoes
Carrying heavy weight
The vitiated vata causes stiffness of joints, pain and limits the movements of back.

Effective Tips for Back Pain Relief

Back pain is often a sign of injury or some underlying problem related to your spine – its bones, muscles, and other soft tissues. It could disrupt your work, routine, and your daily activities. It may even affect your normal lifestyle as you are unable to participate in recreational activities due to pain.

Fortunately for those who suffer from back pain, episodes of this condition do not often last long. In fact, most of episodes last from a few days to a few weeks and rarely do they last more than three months. If they do, then you are advised to consult a doctor since pain may just be a symptom of a far more serious injury or disorder.

In most cases, certain pain management methods may be used to achieve back pain relief. The treatment could range from use of nonprescription drugs to massage therapies and traditional remedies like acupuncture and yoga.

Below are some of the popular methods used for lower back pain relief:

1. Exercise

Many people believe that rest is best for a painful back, but actually, what your back really needs when it’s hurt is exercise. Regular exercise relieves back pain by strengthening and stretching the muscles that support the spine and helps to prevent future injury.

This is a use it or lose it situation: the more you rest, the weaker your back gets, even if it is hurt. If you do not know of any, you can always ask your doctor for reference. For sure the list that they will give includes swimming and walking to say the least. There are also movement therapies to develop proper posture.

To manage pain, you may do any of the following:

• Walk short distances
• Stretch and do flexibility exercises
• Use a stationary bicycle
• Swim

2. Losing Weight

Losing weight can also be a back pain relief. This is because being overweight can make the ache get worse. You also have to get your muscles in better shape and improving your postures when sitting, standing or sleeping.

Remember, if your head is not in line with your body it is like having a 15-pound weight constantly pulling you forward, which can strain the neck and shoulders. Standing and sitting with good posture create a vertical line with the body that can make you appear up to 10 pounds lighter.

3. Heating Pads and Ice Packs

Following trauma, the person should apply an ice pack or compress over the injured area. Do this for up to 20 minutes several times every day. If you still do not achieve back pain relief after two to three days of cold treatment, use a heat pack. This will help relax the muscles and increase blood flow, speeding up recovery.

4. Physical Therapy

Sometimes, rest and exercise, the most common forms of back pain treatment, may not produce the desired results. Even so, pain may still be treated without going for surgery. Manual physical therapy is a method of lower back pain treatment that uses a specialized type of physical therapy to relieve pain.

Physical therapy uses different techniques, such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, cryotherapy, massage, exercise, and heat in order to relieve muscle spasms, increase flexibility, strengthen muscles, relieve pain, and accelerate the healing process.

5. Massage Therapy

Studies have shown that massage therapy is more effective than both chiropractic and acupuncture for relieving pain due to muscle spasms. The benefits of massage therapy include improved circulation, which helps alleviate muscle soreness; muscle relaxation, which helps muscles move without pain; and increased endorphins, the body’s natural pain relievers. You should be aware that the kind of massage you receive in a spa is not the same kind of massage used to treat back pain.

6. Water Therapy:

Hydrotherapy for back pain relieves pain by loosening the muscles and ridding the body of toxins that produce pain and inflammation. Water exercise therapy has many benefits. The buoyancy of water supports the patient’s weight, allowing a greater range of motion when the person has too much pain to exercise on land.

This makes water exercise therapy ideal for everyone who seeks relieve from back pain. Additionally, the water temperature should be warm enough to relax muscles, which also helps relieve pain. Warm baths are excellent for relieving mild backaches.

Health Tips for New College Students

Staying healthy on campus may be one of the more overlooked items of importance when it comes to college living…especially when there are more important things such as deadlines and midterms to be concerned with. But what many college students tend to forget is that on campus, illnesses run rampant especially in the winter. The risks are too great to avoid a daily dose of healthy reminders in order to stay healthy and not have to miss too much class for reasons that could have been avoided. Here are some tips to help college students stay healthy and going strong at the university.
First, before heading off to college, it would be a good thing to get your vaccinations in order. There is a big mix of completely different people from all around the world in close quarters with one another and disease and illness can be easily spread, especially when using shared resources like those of colleges and universities.
Put together a healthy eating plan. With the hectic schedule college demands, it is very easy to simply grab whatever is easy to eat such as a double cheeseburger and onion rings…every day. The dorms make it very easy to not only consume deep fried foods regularly, but in quite an amazing abundance. Try to focus on a healthy diet, sticking with fruits and vegetables and try to make those things, such as french fries, you know shouldn’t be going into your body more like rewards than an everyday necessity in your diet.
Get enough sleep. Sleep is so important in order to keep yourself healthy. Many college students believe sleep is overrated, yes, I confess…but now I correct that mistake. Lack of sleep will only make things worse in the lines of illnesses and even academics. Yes, you may do just fine without sleep, but just think about how much more you will enjoy your college experience while potentially even doing better than you are WITHOUT sleep. No sleep = heightened risk of illness due to lower immune system defense and more.

Health Tips for New College Students
Try to keep a regular exercise schedule. Sitting around and studying may exercise your brain cells but not necessarily the rest of your body. You can use the college gym or just take a run, but it is a good thing to get the blood circulating through your body and brain. This oxygenation will help improve your studies and will make many things a lot easier for you in the long run, not to mention boost your immune system.
Drink plenty of water. Many students tend to forget this and simply grab a soda. Let’s see…you need a quick drink as you are on the go, ah yes soda machine! You stick your hand in your pocket to find only a little change left. “Oh man I forgot I had those other three sodas earlier. Darn, I am so thirsty and I need something for class!”
Keep a water bottle in your bag and keep it filled. It does wonders and not to mention helps keep your body healthy.
In regards to the “communal living” aspect of college, make sure you are cautious of all the different people who use the restroom at your dorm. This is not home where mom may clean up after you. The college restrooms are, indeed, cleaned once a day or so, but they can get dirty really quick. Wear flip flops in the shower and make sure you try to avoid placing things on the counter tops such as razors that you may be shaving and such with. Be sure to wash your hands regularly in college as well.
Even though it may be rather difficult to remember to do all these things, this is not all. In fact there are many other tips at our website and more. But all I am trying to say in this article is to simply be a little more cautious about staying healthy in college in order to help you stay healthy as well as others. Good luck with all of your future college endeavors and stay well!

Say no to acid reflux

Many of you might be suffering from acid reflux to some extent or the other. When it happens during night hours, then the stomach gas and fluids disturb the sleeping pattern.

Acid reflux or GERD (Gastro esophageal reflux disease) occurs when the LES (lower esophageal sphincter) relaxes and gives way to fluids and gases in the stomach to move upwards into the esophagus. LES opens up so as to allow the food enter into the stomach and then closes but it is when this LES is too relaxed or damaged then it causes acid reflux.

Poor eating habits could be a major cause for acid reflux. Eatables such as sauce, raw onion or garlic, coffee or alcohol when remain indigested leads to acid reflux. Certain natural herbs and supplements and even medicines help in getting rid of the problem.

Chronic indigestion can be caused by a lack of hydrochloric acid. Some people produce insufficient amounts of stomach acid as they grow older. Besides the proper digestion of food, hydrochloric acid is necessary to keep harmful bacteria.

Medicines such as nexium are quite effective in treating GERD because it contains esomeprazole as the active ingredient which is a proton pump inhibitor. It works while inhibiting the action of proton pumps and thereby reducing the production of the stomach acid.

Since it relieves the symptoms of stomach cancer, it could be advised to go for a proper examination before starting the treatment if your doctor suspects a stomach ulcer. Moreover, it should not be used for children, women who are breast-feeding and some other cases of intolerance to fructose or absorbing glucose in the diet.

There could be certain side effects of the medicines such as headaches, diarrhea, nausea, constipation, vomiting or abdominal pain, formation of excess gas in the stomach, skin allergies, dry mouth, joint or muscle pains, depression, dizziness, swelling of the legs, confusion, or insomnia.

Insomnia a Herbal Remedy

A herbal remedy for insomnia is probably the most popular herbal remedy reccomended in the western hemisphere today. With anything from 10 to 20 percent of the American adult population claiming to suffer from insomnia at any one time the search for relief is on. Notice I said relief. It should be stressed that only behavioral or psychologic techniques can actually cure insomnia, whereas prolonged use of sleeping pills can only result in dependency. Hence an insomnia herbal remedy is good!

There a large number of herbs that you may (and I say MAY) find helpful as a insomnia herbal remedy. Before testing any insomnia herbal remedy you should consult your Doctor or other Health Professional before self medicating. Lets face it most drugs are good and er bad.

I'll list some of the main insomnia herbal remedys here and add a few notes. Others insomnia herbal remedys are mentioned at great length in the books mentioned at the bottom of the article.

Extracts of (St John's wort) are now successfully competing for status as a standard antidepressant therapy. Great effort has been devoted to identifying the active antidepressant compounds in the extract. St John's wort is one of the best-investigated medicinal plants us as an insomnia herbal remedy. Researchers in Europe have studied St John's Wort for decades. They discovered a combination of elements in the plant, foremost of which is "hypericin", react with specific chemicals in the brain to temper emotional discomfort, lift depression, and calm the nerves. Working very much like the common synthetic prescription antidepressants (maprotiline hydrochloride and imipramine) and again a wonderful insomnia herbal remedy.

Yohimbe is a popular herb originally from South Africa and known worldwide as an excellent aphrodisiac. Traditionally yohimbe bark has been used to treat fevers, coughs, and leprosy. Often yohimbe tea was taken by warriors in preparation for battle. Yohimbe supplementation was also taken during fertility celebrations, mating and marriage rituals. It has been used as a topical anesthetic, and a hallucinogen when smoked.!! Yohimbe's most common, modern use is as a tonic and as a insomnia herbal remedy

Yohimbe is also known to reduce anxiety, elevate mood, and prevent heart attacks. Because it stimulates the central nervous system, it has been used to treat narcolepsy and weight loss, and has other positive effects on overall health such as a insomnia herbal remedy!

And we are out of space already just as the herbal remedies for insomnia have got into the swing of things. I hope I've given you a taster and will return to this theme in a further article.

Skin Disorders and Cosmetics

Every day, thousands of women have reactions to the make-up they use. While this is a relatively small percentage of the population, there is cause for concern nonetheless. For those women who cannot leave the house with wearing make-up, be sure that you are using quality products from reputable manufacturers. Cosmetics, especially those made by less-than-scrupulous companies, can cause serious long-term problems for your skin.

One of the most common problems caused by the use of cosmetics is irritant contact dermatitis. This is generally characterized by an intense facial itch, and an accompanying rash. This type of skin disorder is usually caused by the use of facial cleaners, toners, and astringents. These products are generally very acidic, and often contain alcohol. If you find that your skin is irritated by these products, you should refrain from using them immediately. Then make an appointment to see your doctor or dermatologist.

Another skin disorder caused my cosmetics is allergic contact dermatitis. This occurs with less frequency than irritant contact dermatitis, and the appearance is very hard to distinguish from other types of skin reactions. Symptoms generally include redness, swelling, itchiness, or blistering. This type of reaction is caused by an allergy to one or more ingredients in a particular product. In case of a reaction, refrain from using any cosmetic products until the reaction has subsided. An antihistamine will help to reduce any itching that you may be experiencing, and your physician may prescribe a corticosteroid to reduce inflammation.

One condition that seems to be appearing with greater frequency is cosmetic induced acne. A great number of the cosmetics on the market are left on ones face for long periods of time, and this can cause the skin pores to become clogged. These clogged pores will often develop into blackheads or pimples. Treatment for cosmetic induced acne is the same as that for standard acne; appropriate creams or gels, and/or oral medication. Applying make-up on these areas is strongly advised against. If you wear make-up during this time, be sure that it is oil-free.

While this is hardly an exhaustive list of conditions related to the use of cosmetics, they are reason to pause and consider you particular situation. We all love to look pretty, and make-up generally helps us accomplish that goal. There are alternatives to wearing excessive amounts of make-up, and I have heard that the all-natural look is really making a big comeback! If you cannot imagine going without cosmetics, be sure the ones you are using are designed with high quality ingredients. There are a number of all-natural products available, too. Explore your options, and speak with your dermatologist about any concerns you might have. Your skin will thank you for it!

Alisha Burke loves to wear make-up, but she also realizes the importance of proper facial cleansing. She is considering a career in dermatology, but for now she is content writing for yourskin101.com a wonderful skin care resource guide with important information about specialized skin care, acne treatments, natural skin care alternatives and more.

To avoid sunlight is no good idea, but use it with intelligently

For a long time we have been told to beware of the sun-rays and protect ourselves from the impact of sun rays upon our skin. The truth is probably not as bad and simple. Sunlight gives both benefits, and effects harm by exaggerated exposure. The effects of sunlight upon the skin is due to the ultra-violet light. These light rays are generally divided in three kinds according to wavelength, UVA with longest wavelength and lest energy in each light quantum, UVB of shorter wavelength, and UVC of shortest wavelength and highest energy.

THE BENEFITS OF THE SUN-RAYS

If the exposure to sun light is moderate, the benefits outnumber the dangers. First of all sunshine has a good effect upon the mental health and well-being, both due to the visible light and to the warming effect.

The UVA rays in the sunlight stimulates the skin to produce vitamin D. This vitamin is necessary for the normal composition, growth and regeneration of bone tissue. By to low levels of vitamin D in the body, the bones tend to loose calcium and get thinner and weaker. Newer findings suggest that many people do not get enough of this vitamin through the diet or do not absorb enough from the intestines, and need this stimulation to get good enough levels of vitamin D.

Newer findings also suggest that moderate amount of sunshine does not promote the occurence of skin cancer. On the contrary, in moderate amounts, exposure to sunshine seems to help prevent cancers of several types, especially breast cancer, colon cancer and prostate cancer.

The benefit that most people go for when engaging in sun bath, is the browning effect. This effect comes from the UVA rays stimulating the melanocytes in the skin to produce more of the brown pigment - melanin. The increased amount of melanin will protect the skin against the harms of sun-rays, and make you tolerate greater amounts of sun before harmful effects occur. The sun rays also stimulate the upper layer of the skin to grow thicker, and this makes the skin more robust against damage. As long as this thickening is moderate, the thickening is a good effect.

THE DANGERS OF THE SUN-RAYS

The most visible danger of exaggerated sun exposure is the burning effect caused by the UVB rays. The effect is mostly due to immune cells in the skin releasing histamine. Histamine then causes blood vessels to dilate and also cause other symptoms of acute inflammation. Some cells will also be injured by the sunlight to such extend that they die, causing the upper layer of the skin to flake away.

.

Exaggerated exposure to sun can cause brown spots - liver-spots. Furthermore it can cause the cancer type called basal cell carcinoma. These effects are caused both from the UVA and UVB rays. This type of cancer looks like brown flakes or brown spots, and may be difficult to distinguish from liver-spots. However, this kind of cancer is little malignant, and is in many cases just a cosmetic problem.

But the UVA and UVB rays from too much sun exposure can also cause malignant melanoma. This cancer consists of melanocyte cells been transformed into cancer cell. Malignant melanoma often evolves from birth marks. This cancer can remain small for a long time, but can also spread and develop very rapidly and swiftly evolve into a serious disease. In its initial stages, the cancer looks like an irregularly shaped and abnormally or irregularly coloured birthmark. People having been exposed to much sun and often been sunburned form an early age, are in special risk for malignant melanoma.

Traditionally skin cancers were thought to be caused by the UVB rays, but newer findings suggest that the whole ultraviolet spectre participates in causing cancers. Therefore using solariums that gives off only UVA rays is not safe from cancer risk.

Too much sun exposure for a long time will increase the speed of skin aging and cause permanent changes in the skin, due to the effects of UVB rays. The wrinkles will multiply and aggravate. Also the blood vessels in the skin tend to become permanently dilated and areas of the skin will often get an abnormal or irregular thickness, some places too thin, other places too thick. Due to the widened blood vessels, the skin will be permanently red.

UVC rays are normally filtered out from by the ozone layer in the upper atmosphaere. Nowadays this layer is wakened over certain areas in certain times. These rays are the most dangerous and easily cause cancer and other types of skin damage.

HOW TO AVOID THE DANGERS AND GET MOST OF THE BENEFITS

The best way to get just enough sun exposure to get the benefits, but not so much to suffer the harms caused by sun rays, is just to expose your skin for the sun some time, and then cover the skin by clothes.

The time recomanded for naked exposure vary considerably. A person with brown skin can take much more than a pale person. The same is true about a person with thick skin. As you get used to the sun each year, you will gradually get browner and also tolerate more. If you take sunbath for the first time in the year, and you have not yet get used to the sun, 10-15 minutes may be enough.

However, often you want to expose your skin to the sun rays longer than an unprotected skin can tolerate, and then you have to use some topical sun protection. Sun balms are found with protection from 3 to 30. The protection factor is supposed to tell how many times longer you can be in the sunshine with the balm on, than without the balm. Be aware that the real protection factor may be less than that written on the bottle.

A balm with the factor 20 does not always really have that factor. If you know you can tolerate 0.5 hours exposure without protection, do not think that you really will tolerate 10 hours exposure with a balm of factor 20 on. The balm must also be renewed several times during the time you expose yourself for the sun. That is especially true if you take swims. The balm must neither be too old.

The face is the body part that it is most important to protect against the sun, since the face does not have any clothes on, and accordingly gets longest sun exposure.

Some kinds of nutrition seems to make the skin more robust against the impact from sun rays. It is for example wise to eat much fish and use olive oil in the diet. You should also attend to the news about the ozone layer, and always protect your skin in periods with weakened ozone layer.

Mutual massage between friends strengthen the relationships and the health

By massaging your friend or living partner and let him or her do the same to you, you will both get emotionally closer to each other, and both get several health benefits. Massaging will benefit the mental state of the person you work on, the muscular condition, the blood circulation and the lymph drainage. However, what you want to achieve, will determine the exact technique you use.

MASSAGING ACROSS THE MUSCLE FIBRES
This type of massage is very good for relaxing tense muscles and a stressed mind.
You perform this massage by rubbing or gripping across the direction of the muscle fibres or across tendons. You take one area after the other. You begin by massaging each area lightly, superficially and slowly to warm up, and then proceed by massaging deeper, firmer and more swiftly.
According to the size and conditions of the area you treat, you can use different types of manipulation. You can use a couple of fingers at a small area, or to reach deep into a tense point. You can rub with all your finger tips or with the palm of your hand at greater areas. To get a harder effect, you can use your finger knuckles.

MASSAGE ALONG THE MUSCLE FIBRES
This type of massage will give the following effects: Stiffness will be reduced or cured, and the muscles will gain in mobility. The muscles will get better blood supply and drainage. The muscles will get a better drainage of tissue fluids into the lymph system, and thereby swollen muscles will normalize. These effects will in turn make tired muscles faster regain good condition.
By this massage you stroke along the direction of the muscle fibres, and always in the direction of the blood stream towards the heart.
Also now you take one area after the other, but try to reach the whole length of a muscle or muscle group at each stroke. Also by this massage, you begin massaging at each area lightly, superficially and slowly to warm up, and then proceed by massaging deeper, firmer and somewhat faster.
Also by this longitudinal massage, you can press down and stroke with your finger tips, with all your fingers, or grip around a muscle or muscle group with your fingers.

MASSAGE WITH AN ELECTRIC MASSAGER
Most electric massage devices are vibrating up and down. This vibration mostly gives the same effect as the massage across the muscle fibres. If you also stroke with the device head along the muscle in the direction of the blood stream towards the heart, you will simultaneously also achieve the effects of longitudinal massage.

COMBINING THE MASSAGE WITH STRETCHING
The effects of the massage can be increased by also stretching the limbs and body parts of the person you work on. Stretch in the natural movement directions of the limb or body parts until you reach some resistance. Do not stretch hard to go beyond the resistance point. However, by holding the limb some time at the resistance point will often cause the limb to relax, and then you can go some way further.

HOW HARD SHOULD YOU PERFORM THE MASSAGE?
Tired and stiff muscles are often tender and aching. Working at a tender point will always cause some temporal pain. However, if you use the right degree of firmness, the effect of the massage should cause an immediate release of pain and tenderness when you have finished working at a point. You should never work so hard that the pain is felt nearly unbearable, or so hard that pain remains after the massage is finished. If you do so, you can hurt or aggravate already existing tissue damage.
To achieve the right firmness you should monitor the reactions of the person you work at and listen to his comments. You should also never perform a massage on an area with a distinct inflammation or a distinct injury.

USE OF MASSAGE OILS
By applying a massage oil or ointment at the area you work at, you ease the massage work and increase the effects of the massage. Your fingers glide more easily upon the skin covering the area. The blood supply of the skin and muscles will be stimulated. You get a sensual and exciting scent on the area and in the air. Ingredients in the oil will ameliorate muscular ache and pain. According to the composition of the massage oil, there will be different stimulating effects upon the muscles, for example faster regeneration of tired or hurt muscle tissue.

MASSAGING FOR MUTUAL JOY AND PLEASURE
You can use each of the two main techniques, but you let the pleasure of the person you massage decide the technique, the area you massage and the firmness of the massage. Usually gently touching and caressing will be the right manner.
Also your own pleasure shall decide. Do not work so hard that you get tired out yourself, and the person that you give the massage should be willing to repay you by doing the same favour to you.

Common Causes of Hair Loss

It is very natural for a person to loss 50 to 100 hairs each day under the bodys hair renewal process. But most of the people at least once in their lifetime suffer with heavy hair loss. There may be various reason behind this; like medication, chemotherapy, exposure to radiations and certain chemicals, nutritional and hormonal factors, thyroid disease, skin disease or stress, etc.

In most of the cases hair loss is temporary but in certain cases it may be permanent depending on the severity of disease. Some of the most common causes of hair loss are explained here.

HORMONAL

Hormones are stimulant to hair growth and causes hair loss problems. Hormones affect heavily our hair growth. These affect both male as well as female hair health.

Hair thinning is one of the hormonal problems and affects both men and women. Hair thinning in male is specific and follows a pattern from the front through to the crown. Hair thinning in female does not follow any specific pattern.

Hair thinning is caused by androgen DHT or Dihydrotesterone. Everyone has DHT but only some suffers with hair problem, are you wandering, why? This owes to the hair follicles, which have a greater number of androgen receptors for the DHT to attach with. Till date the most effective treatment for the problems of hair thinning is; anti androgens. Anti androgens are preventive drugs that prevent the creation of DHT. In future we may get genes therapy for hair thinning problems.

Childbirth

Many of the females experience hair loss after labor. In such a situation many of the hair enters the telogen or resting phase. Some of the females experiences hair loss within two to three months after giving childbirth.

Hair problem due to pregnancy is temporary and in many of the cases eradicate within time, say 1 to 6 months. This occurs because of diverse hormonal changes that take place within the body during pregnancy.

Birth control pills

The females who are genetically programmed with Androgenic Alopecia, if takes birth control pills at much younger age encounters hair loss. Androgenic Alopecia is caused due to various hormonal changes.

The females who have history of hair loss in their family must consult doctor before taking any birth control pills. This type of hair loss is temporary and may stop in 1 to 6 months. Generally to save protein our body pushes growing hair into resting phase. If your hair can be pulled out by the root very easily, then this may be due to lack of a well balanced diet. This condition can be prevailed by eating a diet rich in proteins and other necessary nutrients.

Low serum iron

If some person either may not have access to iron rich food or his / her body may not absorb enough of iron then this may cause hair problems. Women during menstrual period are more prone to be iron deficient. Low iron in the body can be detected by laboratory test and can be corrected by taking a diet rich in iron and iron pills.

Disease Or Illness

Hair loss due to some disease or illness is very common, but this type of hair loss is temporary and lost hair may grow again. Diseases like sever infection or flu and high fever, thyroid disease etc may lead to hair loss.

Certain medications, cancer treatments, and chronic illnesses also cause hair loss. A person who receives surgery also faces hair loss problems.

Home Manicure, Home Pedicure

When you need to do manicure or pedicure at home, it is very important to have knowledge of it in general, and the requirements in particular. If you feel the need of a system of manicure / pedicure and wandering, then the following mentioned system would be of great help to you. So for creating a perfect manicure / pedicure system at home, you will need the followings:
1 pack of cotton balls
1 polish remover

1 nail trimmer
1 cuticle remover
1 bottle fingernail polish
2 toe separators
A couple of paper towels

Now you definitely would be interested to know, how the abovementioned items will help you in doing manicure / pedicure.

Nail polish removing:

Take cotton balls as many as you need them, soak each finger well with nail polish remover, so that your fingernails true color start appearing. Use a very less quantity of nail polish remover to remove the nail polish. Since nail polish is extremely drying, never soak the nail in it, especially the cuticle. Keep the good contacts of your nails with the nail polish.

Soaking and removing cuticles:

Your cuticle is like a fore skin. It is found at the bottom of your nail, where finger nail cartilage and skin meets. To remove cuticle, soak your nail in warm water for 3 minutes or less. Now use cartilage remover to push the cuticle down.

Trimming your fingernails:

To trim out toenails, use nail clippers. To reshape or shorten nails, simply use nail clippers. If your nails are hard, soak them in water before trimming. If you have soft nails, do not trim after bathing or washing, because in doing so you may cause damage, which sometime may lead to infection. Do not cut too short toenails, because doing so increase the chances of developing ingrown toenails.

Filling Nails:

Use emery board to make your fingernails smooth and good looking. You can use emery board to smoothen the ends of your fingernails. Do not use emery board to scrap your natural nail surface at all. This will make the nails surface rough.

Exfoliating & Moisturizing Hands and Feet:

Now use sugar wash to massage your feet, legs, arms and feet. Rinse your hands first and then use pumice stone to rub away callus and other rough surfaces on the bottom of your feet. Now, rinse the scrub of your feet and legs. Now, use moisturizer or some other soothing cream for your hands and feet that may heal a cracked and roughdry skin.

Polishing Nails:

Remove excess moisturizer using polish remover. Polish your nails and dry them between coats, preferably minimum of four coats. If you have weak or brittle nails, place one or two coats of ridge filling nail polish on the nail as base coat to shore up the nail. Two coats of a colored nail polish are next, followed by a topcoat to add luster. Use foam toe separators to fingers, while polishing. Allow drying the polish.

5 Reasons For Using a Website Template With Flash Design

If you have aspirations to build a website for whatever reason, are you aware that it is not necessary for you to learn HTML or CSS beforehand. If you are looking to set up a site that displays your hobby, has information about your favorite movie or perhaps you want to set up a business, then best decision you can make is to use a website template.

These are basically designed by someone else and then offered free of charge or for a small fee. There are plenty of places on the internet that offer these and it should not take too long for you to find one that you like. This article will discuss some of the major benefits for choosing a template above learning to design your from scratch.

So why should you choose a pre-designed template? There are a few answers to this question. The most important one I have already mentioned. Whilst it is always positive if you can understand the technical language that makes up a web page, the template basically allows you move beyond this and so the whole process is much quicker for you. It has been my ambition to learn HTML for some time now. I think that it would be great to be able to design my own sites, but alas along with a lot of people it is difficult to find the time. This is where these great templates become really valuable. Basically, the hard work is already done for you.

Also, by choosing a template you are automatically avoiding the hassle of detecting and removing coding errors. At any reputable website that sells templates you can expect that this has already been done for you. Therefore a pre-designed template can save you a lot of time.

Another great benefit of website templates is the amount of choice that is on offer. Some people perhaps envisage a series of dull and basic html sites when a template is suggested. However the truth is that there is now a wide variety of templates that will suit every type of topic that you can imagine.

However, when choosing the template try to pick one that is not that popular. You can see this by the number of downloads that have been made next to the product description box. Once you have the HTML code for the template you should modify it anyway. Changing the color scheme, font sizes and so on is easy to learn and should not take much of your time.

If you decide to choose a template then you are also going to benefit by saving money. If you are unable to program a website yourself then it can be very expensive to hire a web design team to do it for you. The website templates are definitely a viable alternative. There are plenty of places online that offer quality templates and some are even free.

Another great reason to choose a web template is the variety of options available. Typically you will expect to build a site that is either HTML (the most popular) or in Flash. Dependent on what it is that you plan to use your site for, both are great designs. The good news is that you can find website templates that have been designed in both versions.

Break the Cold Sore Cycle

If you suffer from frequent cold sore outbreaks and want to learn what you can do to reduce their frequency and duration and get back some of the control of your life you've lost to the condition then you'll want to read this article. In it I'll discuss the usual reasons for suffering frequent outbreaks, what you can do to turn the situation around and the future of cold sore treatments. After reading this article, you should be able to make some lifestyle changes that will help your body fight the virus better.

Cold sore are caused by the herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-I), which is transmitted directly by contact with a cold sore blister or lesion. It is extremely common, with infection rates estimated to be anywhere between 70 and 90 percent of the adult population, with many of us contracting the virus in childhood.

The big problem with treating HSV is that there is currently no cure and so once infected it remains with us for life. That isn't to say that we will permanently have cold sores; most of the time the virus is in a dormant state in the nerve cells, where it is immune from anti-viral treatments that can attack it when in the infectious state.

Cold sores are often triggered by the presence of another viral infection, such as a cold or flu; high levels of stress; overtiredness; hormonal changes such as those present due to menstruation; and even exposure to sunlight.

While we are not in control of all of these, one long term strategy is to ensure that our lifestyles do not overburden the immune system so that it is better suited to deal with the cold sore virus, so that we suffer fewer outbreaks and those that occur are less severe.

Simple lifestyle changes include quitting smoking and reducing the amount of alcohol we consume. Also, it is important to our immune systems that we eat healthily and take regular exercise. Probably you're used to hearing the advice on diet and exercise, but have you put it into practice?

If not, you should start to act now. Cut down on junk food and processed meals as they contain too much salt, sugar and saturated fats. Instead increase the amount of fruit and vegetables you eat and choose lean cuts of meat and fish whenever possible.

As for exercise, you should aim for a brisk walk for 30 minutes per day. If that doesn't appeal, try joining a gym, take an exercise class, swim, cycle or do yoga. These are all good forms of exercise. A note on this, though; if you haven't exercised for years then see your doctor first.

There has recently been a breakthrough by scientists researching a cold sore sure. They have discovered the mechanism that allows the virus to switch between the dormant state and infectious state and believe that they can design a two-stage treatment that will wake the virus so that it can then be attacked by anti-viral drugs. This may be some way off, but it does offer a hope for the millions of cold sore sufferers around the world.

FREE DAILY DIET PLANS

Free Daily Diet Plans are popping in your web search engines. You can hop from websites to websites that are promoting free daily diet plans that promise you to shed those unwanted pounds instantly. You might be trying their plan and then skip to another plan hoping to get better results. But this should not be the case. Diet plans should not be like what happens in laboratory experiments that when one does not work another trial must be taken. That can be dangerous for all we know because your health must be at risk. The safest way to apply any of these Free Daily Diet Plans is not to test all so that you will know which one works for you but to first educate yourself to things that you might run into.
Remember you are not the guinea pig in a lab. Take things with much precaution. What do I mean is that, first know what you need, know your body weight and find out your desired body weight to maintain. After that then it is time to plan for an appropriate calorie intake in order to achieve the desired weight. Losing weight is not only adapting the right diet plan but also the proper exercise must go with it too. Examine your body and find out which part needs shedding and toning. There are parts of our body that are just fine except of course if the condition needs real shaping. If that is the case, better consult your doctor first before moving on to diet plans. Your exercise regimen must be apt to what your body need, strenuous workout is probably not what is best for you but only a butt shaping or biceps toning. Long hours of physical exercise can only stress you out thus burn you out instead than burn your fats out. It will not achieve your purpose. Regular, we mean daily, but short exercise is wise than once or twice a week heavy physical exercise.

OSTEOPATHY THE COMPLETE PAKAGE

Osteopathy is a complete body technique of prevention and treatment of disease. Osteopathy is a complementary medicine system that not only looks into the physical symptoms but the daily life, approaches and present health status of the patient. The Osteopath is competent enough to identify, detect and treat disorders of the musculoskeletal system and related areas.

In the U.S., osteopaths are fully accredited physicians, with the same practice rights as their allopathic physician counterparts, who carry MD Degrees. Osteopathic physicians earn the degree of Doctor of Osteopathy or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. Outside the U.S., most osteopaths are not accredited as physicians, and therefore mostly offer drug-free, non-medical interventions. Stress that was given to the importance of the musculoskeletal system on health during their initial training and lack of prescribing rights force them to offer largely Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (a form of manual therapy that includes an array of physical treatments, and in particular joint manipulation) to their patients.

Osteopathy is about handling of the skeleton and muscles of the body to promote mobility and balance. The philosophy of osteopathy is that a healthy body relies on a structurally sound musculoskeletal system. The osteopathic philosophy further states that our body is capable of healing itself and it is capable of maintaining a healthy state, if barriers such as structural problems and poor posture are removed. Osteopathy was developed in the late nineteenth century and has since gained world-wide recognition as a valuable and effective healing system.

Osteopathy works on certain principles let us take a look the order of importance given to it. First of the principal is to consider the body as a unit and every part of the body works in coordination. Next major belief is that the body has its own mechanisms to heal itself. Osteopaths only help the body in self healing process. Next principal is to consider the fact that the structure of the body effects the way the body functions. Many people view Osteopathy as a system to treat aches and pains in the spine, muscles and joints, but it is much more than this.

Osteopaths are effectively treating a range of disorders world over like asthma, back and neck pain, persistent fatigue, headache, joint pain, recurring strain injuries, sciatica, sports injuries, tendinitis.

The study of biomechanics is essential for osteopathy. It allows the osteopath to understand that how each part of our musculoskeletal system interrelates and persuades the functioning of other parts of the body. Injury to any joint or muscle must therefore be treated in the perspective of the whole body, as other parts of the musculoskeletal system will also be affected according to the osteopathic principle. The osteopath devises a strategy of treatment that takes into account the entire musculoskeletal system of the body. Equal amount of attention is given to other systems of the body, such as the circulatory, nervous and lymphatic systems. Since all of these systems play a significant role in the healing process.

Osteopathy is basically a manipulative medicine system. The focus is on overall body including muscles, ligaments, tendons, the spine and nervous system. An osteopath practitioner may use a variety of techniques, depending on your needs and problems, including soft tissue technique, moving the joint manually through its range of motion, by stretching muscles, encouraging muscles to work against resistance, spinal management, restoring balance and movement with gentle techniques, manipulation of the abdomen etc.

Osteopathy persuades you to take liability for your own long term health and wellbeing goals. An osteopath may help you to discover the lifestyle and environmental factors that contribute to your problems. These may include postural defects, excessive stress or the need for comfortable furniture. An osteopath may work out a range of treatments, including specific exercise routines, techniques of relaxation or guide you through body awareness sessions to show you how to move your body moderately.

In problems like prolapsed discs, joint infections or bone disease manipulation technique can be dangerous and it is better to be avoided. Always remember that osteopathy is a manual medicinal system that works on the soft tissues of the body to relieve pain and improve joint mobility and according to the philosophy of osteopathy your body can’t maintain a healthy state without a properly synchronized musculoskeletal system
